Basic navigation license (PNB)

The Basic Navigation Skipper (PNB) title is ideal for those who want to get started in navigation. This title allows you to govern motorized and sailing pleasure boats up to 8 meters in length and jet skis with no power limit. With the PNB, you can sail up to a maximum distance of 5 miles from the coast, both day and night.

Requirements to obtain the title

To obtain the PNB title it is necessary to meet the following requirements:

  1. Minimum age: 18 years old, or 16 years old with parental authorization.
  2. Theoric exam: Pass a 27-question test.
  3. Radio practices: Complete 4 hours of practice in a simulator.
  4. Navigation practices: Carry out 8 hours of practice on the boat.
  5. Medical check: Present a medical certificate similar to that of your driving license.

Title attributions

With the PNB degree, you will be able to:

  • Govern motor boats up to 8 meters in length.
  • Steer sailing vessels up to 8 meters in length (with additional qualification).
  • Control jet skis of any power.
  • Sail up to 5 miles from the coast, both day and night.

Mandatory internships

The practices are designed so that students learn to function in real navigation situations:

Navigation Practices: 8 hours, divided into two blocks of 4 hours each.
Radio Practices: 4 hours in an approved simulator.
Sailing Practices: 16 hours (if you wish to qualify for sailing).
